Please consider helping...
Why This Is Important
Innocent North Korean refugees, some of which are our friends and family, are at risk of execution if repatriated to North Korea on February 20th.
This case is important because it is the first arrest of North Korean refugees in China after Kim Jung-il's death. Kim Jung-un, the son of Kim Jung-il and NK's current leader, declared that refugees who flee North Korea during the 100-day mourning period of his father's death would be annihilated along with their families. 30 have been caught, but many more lives are at risk -- North Koreans that are caught trying to defect are faced with the cruelest death sentence, often preceded by a long process of torture or excruciating labor. This is because the North Korean government perceives defectors as the number one threat to their authority.
If the international community, especially China, doesn’t take a strong stance on saving North Korean refugees once and for all, they are guilty of supporting the death of thousands of innocent lives. China has the power and opportunity to rewrite history and stop one of the greatest atrocities of our time -- on behalf of our friends and family, we plea, please help #SaveMyFriend!

Character
I really like this blog by Jaime Hepp. (It is on the blog list on the right hand side of the page if you scroll down.)
http://jaimehepp.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/characte/
This post is about CHARACTER. This is something we talk to students about all the time, though we may not use the word character so much. We may talk about being CARING, PRINCIPLED, BALANCED, REFLECTIVE, THINKERS... which are all character traits.
What does your reputation or character say about you?

Congratulations to our Students of the Month for January
That's right, STUDENTS of the Month.
This month we had several students nominated and had 2 winners for Student of the Month.
Here is what teachers wrote about them...
Jason Park
He is a caring and helpful learner, who shows he cares deeply about his own learning. He also cares and supports his friends and class mates in their learning too by explaining tasks or concepts to others. He is able to remain focussed on activities regardless of how difficult they are, displaying principled behavior. When he is given feedback on his work, he listens and tries to act on this to improve himself. This was evident in music classes recently. The self-discipline and diligence with which he approaches his work is to be commended and should be celbrated!

As new students have joined us this Semester, he has been extremely kind to them and has ensured they know what to do and where to be on many occasions. This sevant attitude towards other students is a great model to his peers.
She is always principled in her interactions with others and the way she goes about her work. She is showing more leadership and efforts in being a risk taker in a variety of classes. She demonstrated being Balanced through her participation in the Knitting club, where she showed caring and compassion and a willingness to serve others. Through her quiet determination she has shown tremedous growth and improvement in many aspects of her schooling. Teachers and students admire her respectful attitude towards everyone she works with, regardless of the class or situation. She should be commended for being a communicator in math class through discussiong her problem solving steps and in PE class by creating a teaching video for dance which was clear, concise and easy to understand. She continues to strive to work on all of her areas of schooling by having a clear sense of her strengths and weaknesses.Grace Bang

Fun times in Chapel
Here are some pictures of some fun we had in Chapel last day 3.
These pictures represent the human pyramids which we built- some more successfully than others.
What is the key to a good pyramid?
A wide, strong and stable base.
So how does this have a link to our lives as Christians?
Mr Craig spoke to us about the parables that Jesus often used to teach people about truths. Mr Craig told us about the man who built his house on rock- it was a solid house, able to withstand storms and bad weather. Then he told us about the man who built his house on sand. It was a good house and well built but when the bad weather came, the house crumbled.
So what can we take from this well known parable for our lives today?
What sort of foundation is your life built on?
Is it like the man with the house on the rock, built around Biblical values and serving others and our Lord. Or is it built like the house on sand which all looks good until 'bad weather' hits and then our lives crumble.
Lives built only on possessions, money, grades and other earthly things can crumble and leave us asking why.
Our God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and forever loves us, no matter what our Earthly lives bring or don't bring us. God will not leave us, his love will not crumble and it is only on him we can rely.

Learning to dance and teaching others
Today in PE class we made a series of video's to teach our dance steps to others.
The students had to think about the specific instructions they would give and what was essential to teach about that dance movement. They also had to master the technique for themselves in order to demonstrate it effectively in front of the camera.
Here is the video that Harold and Chris made about the Push Back.
After uploading these video's to YouTube, I then used the web address to create a code using a QR code generator.
Here is Harold and Chris' code for their dance teaching video
This code can be read with a smartphone with a QR reader, which means I can make posters with these codes and turn what looks like a 2D poster into a 3 D moving poster of dance moves. The handiness of using codes is that they are small and portable, and are more interactive than just a picture of the dance move.
So when students cannot remember what a certain dance step looks like, or they are stuck for inspiration they can use my iphone to scan a code and get some ideas.
This is how we made our Dance gallery come alive.
Below is a finished poster of Grace and Elizabeth and their dance move "Knee Lift". You can see how the still images give some information on the poster. When the student scans the code, they will get the video too.
