Technology Update by Mary Kim  5/27/2013

In Technology class, we have been working to create a CO2 car out of wood. We have recently finished our cars, and the picture shows everyone's finished product. In a couple of days, we will race them, and see who's car was the most aerodynamic!

In F block technology, grade 8 have been making their CO2 cars.
Some people are cutting out copies of their final drawings to put onto their prototypes, others are waiting to cut, or cutting their prototypes.
While some have cut, or are cutting out their final cars, on wood, and some are sanding their final CO2 cars.

Recently in Technology, we have been working on an Egg Drop project.
We had to make an apparatus that had a creative design, and one that was lightweight, but still cushioned and protected an egg from a 5th floor drop.
We had to be able to put the egg in and take it out again.
We worked really hard on them and these are the finished products made by Andrew Lee, Casper, Sophia, Leslie, Elizabeth, Hana, Eugene, Jason Chu, Jinsik, Chris Jang, Sehyun, Jaehyun, Wonny, Elal, Scott, David, Jin, Grace, and Kallee.

Chris, Jaehyun, Jinsik, Sehyun, Chan, Eugene, Jason Chu, Casper, Andrew Lee, Kallee, Grace, Elizabeth, Sophia, and Leslie are working on their technology project.
They are making a lightweight egg-drop apparatus that will save an egg from cracking, when it is dropped from the 5th floor.

Technology update by Miss Rakia Segev  3/7/2012

The seventh grade went on a Technology trip, on the 21st of February. We went as one class, even through 7th grade is split into two technology classes. My class had to choose fabrics of colors in the green and beige family, while the other class had to choose fabrics that belonged to the blue and beige family. We all set out to look in the shops for a fabric we wanted according to our table groups. My team went ahead and went to a shop that had many pretty fabrics. We liked two types of acorn fabrics. Eventually my teammates and I decided on the more green of the two acorn fabrics. Every group chose one fabric. Then we had extra time, so we went to McDonalds. Then we went back to school. We had a fun trip overall, going out and choosing our own fabrics.

Technology update from Mrs Norton 2/21/2012
Today we went on a field trip to the fabric shops near the KTX station. The students had a great time and were very well behaved in the community. They made TCIS proud by showing a high degree of respect to the business owners.

The students were shopping for their textiles for their technology project. Students learned about a variety of textiles, coordinating colors and purchasing items while collaborating on their choices. Look for finished project in March!!

Grade 7 students are making lamps!

Ask your 7th grader about the design cycle process they have been through to get to this point with their construction.

Sixth grade students were given the option of two design challenges in Quarter 4.
Some chose the educational design challenge and created puzzles.
Others chose the organizational design challenge and created many useful projects - like electronic charging stations and jewelry boxes.

The pictures are of the students who chose to donate their puzzles to a new community library in Kenya, Africa. These puzzles will be sent with a few boxes of books donated from Middle School students to Mr Lavender (Humanities teacher in MS last year). He is working in Africa now and was glad to take our puzzles to help young African children learn English skills.
What servant hearts from Sophia, Susie, Lisa, Hana, Elal, Kallee, and Hyunsol.
What woodworking skills!

Grade 6 Technology students are working on their "Wood Work" unit.
They were asked to make either an educational puzzle or an organizer.
Students made a sample of their design with foam board first and
then make their final project with actual wood.

 Update from Mrs Thompson 2/22/2011
6th grade technology students are working to create final animation movies in technology class.

On the home page there are 2 movies by Kallee Miller and Susie Kim. This was part of their investigation work in the design cycle.  Out of the experience of making these, they gained skills and knowledge that they are now using to create different final animations, based on Aesop's fables, using keynote and imovie.

Year One Technology Update from Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Thompson: 11/3/2020

Greetings 6th grade parents and students!

Quarter 2 is off and running in Lab 1 with 6th grade students engaged in a unit all about safety.  You can ask your 6th grader about the importance of safety in their life at the dinner table and enjoy their informed response.  Currently students are in the "investigate" stage of the design cycle.  They are researching safety signs and will use Pages, a word processor and page layout application developed by Apple, to demonstrate their findings in the form of a safety sign collage.  Next up:  students will begin designing their own signs building on their understandings of what makes a safety sign effective.  They will use a design program in Lab 1 before moving to Room D to use hand tools to create a unique sign with plastic and adhesive products.

Meanwhile 6th graders also continue to improve their speed and accuracy through their keyboarding practice using Ultrakey for 10 minutes at the start of each class.  Each student is focused on their personal best and on maintaining healthy posture while working at the computer.  We recently printed off their progress reports for student records... and they are each doing very well!

We hope you are enjoying this wonderful fall weather!
