Student of the Month for November and Student of the Semester

Today we handed out 3 awards to students who have excelled during this last month of November and also to a student who has been a consistent worker and achiever for the whole Semester.
Congratulations to...

Student of the Month for November- Mary Kim

She is a great communicator in class and her open mindedness means she will happily work with any other students.
She is fair-minded in competitive environments and is always happy for others when they succeed.
She speaks up in class, showing she is a risk taker and a thinker. She gives her opinions as well as being knowledgeable on the class content.
She shows humility in her achievements and is quick to acknowledge other students.
She is well organized with her assignments and materials and produces exemplary work across a range of subjects.

Student of the Month for November- Lisa Han

She is a really caring student in class and demonstrates this in the way she does her own work really well, but is always aware of others and how they may need help.
She takes her time with her work in order to be knowledgeable, by looking at situations in-depth and by thinking through the concepts involved.
While she may be a quieter student in class, she is able to communicate her ideas and thoughts clearly through her writing.
She shows other students how to be competitive, empathetic and caring all at the same time in PE classes.
She models to other students how to be successful in a wide range of activities and be humble while doing it.

Student of the Semester- Rakia Segev

She consistently completes all of her work in a thorough, thoughtful, and detailed manner.
She demonstrates thinking skills in her written work like her reflections and in the oral responses she gives in class.
She shows a high level of commitment to being balanced by also participating in after school sports and activities.
She is reliable when she works in a group and will always have ideas of her own to contribute.
She is focused on ensuring each piece of work is the highest quality she can produce, whether this be in practical or theoretical situations.
She produces exemplary work across a range of subjects that teachers are astounded by.

Homeroom- ESLR reflection task

On Friday of this week, all students need to come to homeroom prepared to write a reflection on their ESLR goals for Semester one.
This reflection would be about the success or challenges you (students) have faced in meeting your goals. You could also write about your new goals or what you learned about yourself in this process.
This reflection will be added to the Semester one reports.

Dr Penland speaks to Middle School in Chapel

Dr Penland joined us in MS Chapel before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Here were some of his key points and challenges to us as we go about our daily lives...

Do you have an attitude of gratitude?

While our daily circumstances may change, we may experience ups and downs, there are constants in our lives as Christians.
It doesn't matter what is going on around us because God is good and he gives us grace.
God's love for us has not changed and will not change and we should always be thankful for that.

Why do we celebrate thanksgiving?
As Christian people we are called to give thanks for the blessings we have each day. We are called to show gratitude for the many many goo things in our lives. Giving thanks every day in this way helps to build a thankful heart and will help us to see the world in a different way.
What are u thankful for in your life?
Do you have a culture of thankfulness in your family?

Students at TCIS stood up in chapel and gave thanks for friends, family, food, God, freedom, warm clothes and heaters, planes to get us across the world, education, teachers, students and many other things from their hearts and in front of their peers. These students were courageous to do so in front of the whole MS.

What is Dr Penland thankful for today?
The diversity of who we are at TCIS. We have so many different cultures and perspectives at TCIS.  Dr Penland is also extremely humbled and grateful for the answers to prayers for our school.

What are you thankful for today?

Things that make you think...

Things That Make You Go Hmmmm....
(taken from Jamie Hepp's blog- the link is on the side of our blog.)

Here are some great questions to ponder!  There are some great ones.  Enjoy!
Can you cry under water?
How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up like every two hours?
If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?
Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?
If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons?
Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?
Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead? Yeah, how come?
Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough money?
Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?
Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?
Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Many of you won't even know what they are talking about!
Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word 'lisp'?
If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?
Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?
Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?
Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?
Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try?
How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?
When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, 'It's all right?' Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, 'That really hurt, why don't you watch where you're going?'
Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?
In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?
Some fun thoughts to ponder as we start December!
